AEYE Health Looks Forward to New CPT Code 9225x
Updated: Jun 17
In the face of innovative technologies that are altering the healthcare system, the American Medical Association (AMA) must move with the times and adapt CPT® (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, used for the billing of outpatient and office procedures, such that groundbreaking automated procedures and exams can be billed by caregivers seamlessly.
As an analytics company that is using AI and machine learning to diagnose retinal diseases, AEYE Health is excited to report that the AMA has set the date of January 1, 2021 for the implementation of CPT® code 9225X in the reporting of retinal imaging with automated point-of-care. Furthermore, there will be a revision of codes 92227 and 92228 such that they may include imaging of the retina for detection and monitoring.
AEYE Health recognizes this action as a significant step taken by the AMA as our partners in the battle against preventable blindness through increased accessibility to retinal screening, and looks forward to seeing the future of automation expand in additional medical fields as well.
